About Me

I started Vegan Good Things as a way to share my love of vegan food, cooking, and other good things I find along the way. I'll share my favorite recipes with you, my favorite vegan things (like coats from Vaute Couture), and fun vegan events that I attend around NYC.

I don't know the exact date that I went vegan, but it was a few years ago now after watching the movie Earthlings. At the time, I was a 'pescetarian' with a pretty fierce addiction to cheese, and watching Earthlings made me realize the incredible wastefulness of our fishing industry, the unimaginable cruelty of our dairy industry, and even the horror of how leather is produced. I went completely vegan that day and I've never looked back. I'm married to a man who has been vegan 20+ years and we are the proud parents of a happy, healthy, adorable vegan toddler.

When people ask me why I'm vegan, I find it harder to think of reasons to not be vegan. Veganism is better for your health, better for the environment, and of course it is certainly better for the animals. I can't come up with a single good reason to not be vegan. Because bacon tastes good? Maybe it does (it's been at least 20 years since I had bacon, so I don't really remember), but I just can't justify the cruelty and suffering of a single animal for a few moments of pleasure on my palate.

I hope to share with you, through this blog, my enthusiasm for all things good & vegan, especially vegan food. I am a self-taught vegan home cook, who loves to test recipes from vegan sources and veganize recipes from non-vegan sources. I want to show everyone that vegan food can be just as delicious and creative as any other kind of food, even more so, and that it never has to be bland or boring. Vegan food can be incredibly decadent, and I'm here to prove that the title of "vegan foodie" is no oxymoron.

Whether you are vegan, vegetarian, or an omnivore who is just looking to cut back on meat and try out new recipes once in a while, I sincerely hope you enjoy my blog.
